Connect What inspired your most recent tattoo?

The snake represents my dad and daughter who are both “black snakes” in the Chinese zodiac which only comes every 60 yrs. The cherry blossoms represent my Korean name 앵두 which interprets to cherry. It’s a nickname my grandma gave me because she couldn’t say my English name “Andrea” and would pronounce it “Ang-du-rea” and “Angdu” means cherry. My culture and family are huge influences in my life and made me who I am today as a Korean Ame

If your ink could speak, what would it say?

It’s an expression of breaking out of cultural norms from coming from a traditional Korean family. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but feared the repercussions it would bring from my old school Korean parents. It only took 40 years to break out that stigma, but it’s liberating for sure. Well, as a single mother, there’s always unexpected expenses. Orthodontics, competitive soccer leagues, violin lessons, but I’d love to be able to do something for myself and go back to school to become a Psych Nurse Practitioner. I’m currently a Nurse Manager in the biggest hospital in Anchorage on the Medical/Oncology Unit, but I started in psych nearly 10 years ago.
