Caroline Voges

My tattoos are me—I’m an engineer, an artist, and a lesbian, so obviously I love badass women, and that’s exactly what is tattooed on me!

What inspired your most recent tattoo?

Annie Oakley—mid-backwards mirror shot on my left leg, scope on my right. Like the other women inked on me, she shattered norms, rose in a man’s world, and gave back as much as she earned. Fierce, principled, generous. In the tattoo, she sees herself and what she’s aiming for. And when I look at it, I see the same—who I am, and who I’m aiming to be.

If your ink could speak, what would it say?

If my ink could speak, it would say it already does. Joan of Arc, Hedy Lamarr, Annie Oakley—women whose wit and grit reshaped history—live on my skin. They whisper their wisdom and bravery through each black dot, and I’m honored to pass their stories on with every “Nice ink—who’s that?”

What would you do with the $25,000?

I’d finally dive into casting, merging my passions—sculpture and jewelry—to create pieces I’ve always dreamed of. The $25,000 would go towards equipment, raw materials, and electrical work to transform my bedroom with a craft table into a studio with a bed. I’d donate the rest to Artly World and Girlstart to help spread the joy of art and engineering to young women and others in my community.
