Connect What inspired your most recent tattoo?

My most recent tattoo is a chest piece. It is the first piece of art I was able to get on my chest after top surgery. I decided to get a detailed black and grey skull with a snake winding through it to represent my close brush with death when I was in a dark place and didn't know I had the option to live as a trans man. It represents strength and survival, but also change. It reminds me that we are all capable of shedding our skin and becoming new, more authentic versions of ourselves.

If your ink could speak, what would it say?

My ink is a living, breathing museum that I carry with me throughout life's turmoil. It is a memorial to the family members that inspired me not only to dream big, but to be the most compassionate, determined, and caring person that I can be to those around me. My ink is also a love letter to myself and a thank you letter to those who have loved me, and to the beauty in the world around me. It is a permanent reminder that I am alive and growing and that life is worth living.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would donate the funds to Point of Pride, a non profit organization that provides financial and direct support to transgender individuals seeking health care and wellness support. Tattoos are a powerful method of self love and self acceptance for many, but I am especially grateful for what the art form has done to support and uplift individuals within the LGBTQ and transgender communities and want to give back to others who may be struggling or need support.
