Connect What inspired your most recent tattoo?

While many of my tattoos are the result of a slow, thoughtful process, my latest piece was much more spontaneous. The artist I work with had penned a beautiful collage drawing, encompassing physical beauty, spiritual significance and local culture. While I had recently began considering a back piece, it just clicked. So we collaborated, deciding the full back is the only way to do such a beautiful and complex piece justice. Sometimes it happens like that. Things line up, and inspiration strikes

If your ink could speak, what would it say?

My tattoos might serve as Cliffnotes into my psyche. Telling stories of universal themes to individual perspectives. One theme in particular that stands out is the idea of evolution or overcoming limitations and reaching for higher states of being Maybe I was influenced by reading Nietzsche early in life, but the idea of working towards an evolved version with unlimited possibilities pervades much of my work. At the very least tattoos serve as great conversation starters.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Being an educator here in Los Angeles going on 20 years now, I would certainly use a good portion of the funds to provide scholarship opportunities and supplies to some of the underprivileged kids I work with. I’ve been quite blessed in many way in this life so the opportunity to give back and just be a general force for good in this world is always my priority. And certainly I would schedule a tattoo session or two. haha
