Learn MoreIt is a knot based on George Bain's book "Celtic Art: The Methods of Construction" and a frontis piece from the Book of Kells. I modified it to represent a more balanced world view, and hopefully to be part of a larger sleeve down the line. It's in memory of my mother, and other women in my life that have been teachers, inspirations, muses, and powerful examples of community and caregivers.
If your ink could speak, what would it say?It would tell a story that honors both my family and history, but also speaks to the future: one where music, food, medicine, and family are woven together -- like a knot, if you will -- that supports everyone that comes in contact with it. My ink speaks to those who supported me, and helped me see there is more to life than personal glory or selfishness.
What would you do with the $25,000?My mother passed away three years ago after a traumatic brain injury. She was my father's light. He's now 79. I would take him to visit the Orkney Islands to see our family's origins (he's never been and wanted to go with her). I would return to the Cliffs of Moher on the west coast of Ireland to make an offering for an ex who passed away from cancer last year. Lastly, I'd get more ink to commemorate both journeys, and a sleeve to celebrate the incredible life-changing power of love in my life.
