On 11/02/21, I put down the bottle after 20 years of alcohol abuse. My tattoo—a skull and butterfly on my forearm—marks the death of my old life and the rebirth of a strong, capable woman. The skull is what I left behind; the butterfly is who I’ve become. It’s more than ink—it’s survival, growth, and proof that transformation is real. Every time I see it, I remember: One day at a time.

If your ink could speak, what would it say?

If my ink could speak, it would scream, “I made it.” It would talk about the nights I drank to feel nothing, the mornings I woke up hating myself. The skull would laugh at the wreckage I left behind. The butterfly would whisper, “You’re not her anymore.” It would tell the truth—ugly, honest, and real. I crawled out of my own grave. I earned every inch of this skin. Every day, it reminds me: You survived.

In three years, I’ve stayed sober and endured six miscarriages. It hasn’t been easy, but I’m committed to building a stable, loving future.
