For my uncle, lost to suicide in 2013. His rose, our Irish roots, and inked near my heart where his memory will always live.

Learn MoreMy uncle was the best man in my life, second to my dad. I saw him every week my whole childhood before he took his life. He always made sure I was safe, happy, and had a little extra $5 in my pocket. I wanted something to remember him by forever because it is the most tragic death I’ve ever dealt with. The Celtic font represents our heritage and the rose wrapped around the text is an exact copy of one of the roses he had tattooed on his body.
If your ink could speak, what would it say?It would say that not even the deepest grief is too heavy for grace. Whatever pain my uncle carried that made him feel this was the only way out, I like to believe he’s now in a place where that burden is gone, and his struggles have finally found peace. Earth holds sorrow, but heaven mends all wounds.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use it for my medical school applications and to survive off of while I’m in school and unable to have a job. Also, to get my dog those injections that increase his lifespan. And probably get another tattoo after that.
