Enter For FreeIn all honesty, I had a leg that looked a little ink-less, a little naked. Like a too-new building, it wanted some graffiti. I asked a friend to doodle a sketch of some mice in mini-skirts leaning on the wall of a Minneapolis gay bar in roughly 1993 - you know, like you do - and there they are: long-lashed, leaning, and sassy af. This tat - like most of mine - tells a story of friendship, connection, and time.
If your ink could speak, what would it say? This body can bless or curse you, lead you to beauty or battle, bring you healing and endure your pain. This skin wears the stories every woman never told.
What would you do with the $25,000?I am an award-winning journalist and the New York Times bestselling author of five books. This award would fund the year of travel required to complete my sixth (forthcoming from Hachette, 2027), which focuses on the intersection of body autonomy, gender, and violence in American life. A portion of the award, in addition to proceeds from this book, will go to survivors of gender-based violence.
