Enter For FreeA friend recommended that I read this book called, Go Together, by Shola Richards. She was reading it for teacher PD and felt it was contradictory to the way leadership actually lead her school. I knew I’d likely feel similarly, but also recognized a deep desire to join the fight to reconnect as a human and create the community I had growing up in my work or my life, or both. So the tattoo is a reminder that I need others and they need me.
If your ink could speak, what would it say?My ink whispers in my ears throughout my day. Together they remind me that I can leave things and I can create the life I want as an individual, but I have to understand that I need to nourish my community as well or I won’t feel whole. My ink is there to start a conversation with others. Even if I don’t get your name and you forget mine, I hope you remember that Ubuntu means, “I am because we are.” We are always and will always be connected to others. How we treat one an
What would you do with the $25,000?I would take a sabbatical from teaching and truly recover from burn out. I would visit with family, organize some of the writing I’ve done over the last few years and try to publish it. I would launch my own business or finish the charter school application I started with a friend a few years ago. I would start heading down a more fulfilling and more aligned path.
